621: “The Taking of Leon Winchell” by Lee Forman

STORY

When Leon spends a day at the Renaissance Faire drinking more than he should, strange things begin to happen. On a downward spiral for a while, has he hit bottom, or is there further to fall? Strange things are afoot in that little tent that seems bigger on the inside.

About the Author:

Lee Forman is an author residing in the Hudson Valley, NY with his daughter and four cats. He’s been a fan of horror literature and cinema since his fascination with the macabre began in childhood, watching old movies and reading every novel he could get his hands on.

He’s a third generation horror fan, starting with his grandfather who was a fan of the classic Hollywood monsters. He spends most of his time writing short fiction, reading, and hiking trails in the Catskill Mountains. In October 2014 he won 3rd place in the Writer’s Carnival Short Story Contest hosted by Sanitarium Magazine and in 2015 he was a competitor in David Wellington’s Fear Project. He’s currently writing a serialized novella titled Silence in the Willow Field.

619: “A Job’s a Job” by TD Trask

TWL-Cover-619
STORY

Vince, the owner of a convenience store in a small New York town finds himself suddenly in need of a new night manager.

The perfect applicant shows up, but what will happen if he hires him? And, what makes him such a good fit for the position?

About the Author:

terry_pic_200x200
TD Trask is a writer of horror. A self-described reformed Scottish-Irish barbarian, he lives in Binghamton, NY with his wife, Dena and their two feline overlords, Ralphie and Gracie.

He has lived on both American coasts, has gotten his kicks on Route 66 more than once, visited Area 51, received an abrupt military invitation to leave Area 51, and is one degree of separation from Mel Gibson, Lou Ferrigno, James Whitmore and Bill Maher.

His first published novel, “Still Waters”, is about a man who forms a deep and unexpected connection with a most unusual neighbor. “Legend of the Tiger” is an epic fantasy-thriller depicting the dangerous mission of a band of domestic animals trying to protect our planet from ecological terrorism. His latest effort, “Deadsville”, co-written with author Dale Elster, is an anthology of short, throwback-style horror stories set in fictional Rock Creek, NY, where strange and terrifying things happen to everyday, rural people. Works-in-progress include “The Callers”, a horror story set once again in Upstate’s Rock Creek, as well as his next short story collection, “Banquet of Souls”.

He was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He’ s been hit in the face with a dirty plunger, run over with his own car, and lived in a haunted house. Now he lives the American Dream of debt of near poverty with his wife, kids, and grandkids somewhere in central Ohio. He writes to avoid going to jail and indulge his dark side. Bret Bouriseau grew up in a small Midwestern town along the Mississippi. As a boy, much of his free time was spent reading and drawing. Not caring for the structure of the public school system, he took his GED test in his junior year while still in high school. After receiving his diploma he promptly left, leaving his home for good shortly after turning 17.

Throughout the early ‘80’s he traveled, supporting himself with various odd jobs -including airbrush artist and carnie. In 1985 he joined the U S Navy and reported aboard the USS Enterprise visiting 14 countries before ending his tour of duty in 1989. In 1992 he discovered the wonderful world of sales, a profession that combined travel and word skills. It was a natural fit.

After running a few legit businesses Bret tried his hand at publishing an underground paper called The Spectre. He sold ads and organized party bus tours to subsidize his income. It was there he began to hone his skills in earnest.

Both an artist and writer, Bret acknowledges painter and cover artist Frank Frazetta as his biggest single artistic influence. His personal style is more akin to Maxfield Parrish

An avid reader of pulp fiction, his two favorite books are Bram Stoker’s Dracula and The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

This year we have a holiday family history lesson from MVS, a gory space story from David J Fairhead, insane surrealism from Brady Allen and Jingling fear from the mighty KT Jayne as well as Happy Horriday Carols from Jessica McHugh!

About the Authors:

Maddie Holliday Von Stark is a badass horror fiction writer from the north woods of Wisconsin. She is known for her mad scientist fractal art, Lord Byron – Ed Poe – Lovecraft – Henry Rollins-ish damnable writings. She is the former Art Director of the Wicked Library. She is also on the marketing team for Fantastic Planet/A Night of Horror Film Festival, Sydney, Australia.

Maddie is currently the Director of Forsaken, the horror genre imprint at Booktrope. Her first novel, The Widows Game is available on Amazon.

When not creating artistic mayhem, MVS enjoys spending time with her hairless chihuahua, Mr. Wu. She is also known for her county fair winning Wicked Apple Jelly. She is also a proud graduate of Montana State University. “Go Cats!”

Jessica McHugh is an author of speculative fiction spanning the genre from horror and alternate history to young adult. She has had seventeen books published by small presses in six years, including her bizarro sci-fi romp, “The Green Kangaroos,” and the first three books in her edgy YA series “The Darla Decker Diaries.” More info on her speculations and publications can be found at JessicaMcHughBooks.com.

KT Jayne asks: Do you know what to do in case of zombie apocalypse? How about when surrounded by a mad horde of Doctor Who fangirls? What if the Mothman invades your town? What if aliens land and start shooting up the place? Lucky for you that you have met KT Jayne. She knows exactly what to do if any of these things happen. She should, she’s spent her entire life obsessing about all these “what ifs” and more. Lucky for you, too, she has Asperger’s and with her out of the box thinking and whiz kid know how, she might just save your skin. Or your soul. Grab your shovel of death and prepare to face whatever form the apocalypse will take. Or just stand behind her. She’ll figure it out. No matter how the apocalypse manifests, KT Jayne does not die at the end.

KT Jayne lives in a small town of central Indiana waiting patiently for the Apocalypse to come.

Both an artist and writer, Bret acknowledges painter and cover artist Frank Frazetta as his biggest single artistic influence. His personal style is more akin to Maxfield Parrish

STORIES

Let's REWIND! From Season Two comes a remastered version of Lydia Peever's chilling tale "Bad Shepherd." In this week’s story, we meet Laurel; a sweet girl who grows up to be a “Demon Whisperer." This story is in the collection available on AmazonPray Lied Eve: Short Tales of the Untoward!

Just for extra fun, our rewinds feature an opening that pays homage to classic shows from The Golden Age of Radio that inspired The Wicked Library.

About the Author:

Lydia Peever
Lydia Peever is a horror author and journalist from Ontario, Canada. She is a big fan of horror music, books and film–so anywhere there is blood, you will probably find her lurking somewhere in the corner.

Her short stories have appeared in Postscripts To Darkness, Dark Moon Digest, For When The Veil Drops and her small collection, Pray Lied Eve. The follow up to her first novel Nightface has been written.

In her spare time, she helps update the new releases section of the Horror Writers Association website, photographs zombie walks or bloody punk rock bands, and records a few podcasts.

STORIES

Let's REWIND! From Season One comes a story from Nancy Rosenberg England! We also drop two fresh scary short tales from Josef Matulich.

Just for extra fun, our rewinds feature an opening that pays homage to classic shows from The Golden Age of Radio that inspired The Wicked Library.

About the Authors:

Josef Matulich is an author, costume/make-up artist, and retired mime. His work runs towards horror & comedy so black it is almost ultraviolet, because the only proper response to the world is to laugh or crawl under your covers for a bit of therapeutic whimpering. His Arcanum Faire novels, “Camp Arcanum” and “Power Tools in the Sacred Grove”, are published by Post Mortem Press. He has a horror/comedy screenplay trapped in pre-production Hell. When not occupied with all of the above, he helps run a costume/vintage store with his wife.
